Don’t wait! Now’s the time to schedule your senior portraits

Congratulations!! You have made it through three years of high school and after the summer break starts the long awaited senior year. I’m sure the only thing on your mind right now are all of the fun things you’re planning for your summer break, and getting your senior pictures taken is probably not on that list.
You are planning your last full summer vacation that might include taking a trip of a lifetime or working a summer job or just taking it easy sleeping in, going to the beach and hanging with your friends.
These are all great. But, oh wait, you have to take your senior photos for the yearbook, and there is a deadline. But you might be thinking, “I have until August 12, and that is plenty of time to get it done. No rush.”

Here is a scenario that we see so often:

Fast forward to August 1
Wow, where has the time gone. I haven’t taken my senior photos yet so let me call now and schedule my appointment. What? You are all booked up? That can’t be, because I have a deadline! So the only appointment I can get is at 8 a.m.? That’s crazy early! I need to get my hair and makeup done before the photo session. Now I feel rushed and I wanted to try out a new hairdo and have this great makeup artist who wanted to try something new. Fine! I’ll take the appointment and just make it work.

Fast forward to proof pick up

This is not me! I hate my hair, my face looks painted on and I look uncomfortable. This can’t go into the yearbook. I want a redo! What do you mean there is no time for a redo? I can’t have this picture in my last yearbook!
If you want to make your senior photo shoot a great and successful experience it takes certain steps on your part to make this happen.

So what should I do right this moment?

  1. Schedule your photo session now before the summer is over and there is a big rush for the deadline. You will have a greater choice for a specific date and time.
  2. Even if you are not planning to take your photo until later in the summer, book your appointment now.
  3. For those who have a fall deadline keep in mind when school starts, the appointment times are limited to after school hours.  It is even more difficult when you have after-school activities such as practice, games and clubs. Saturday appointments are available, but those book up first.
  4. If you are thinking of taking pictures with your friends, schedule that appointment now because it takes even more effort on your part to plan for a time when all of you can come together.
  5. Get inspired! Take a look at our Senior Portraits Portfolio to get ideas on poses, styles and more.

Tips to capture the best Senior Portrait

Make the most of your senior portraits by following these easy tips that we’ve outlined below. You’re only a senior once, so let us help make this special. Putting in the effort now, will pay dividends in the end.

Allow ample time to get ready so you won’t be rushed and uptight. You want to look and feel your best. Arrive at the studio 15 minutes before your appointment to allow time to pay for your session, complete any paperwork and to get any questions that you have answered.

Wear your hair in your usual style. If you want to experiment with a new style, don’t pick the day of your appointment to do so. Allow three days after a haircut for a more natural look.

Bring one-to-two changes of clothing that best reflect your personality. Make sure to try on your outfits before you come to make sure you are comfortable with your choices. Be sure that your clothes are neat and pressed. It’s best to bring your clothing on hangers and/or in a garment bag.

We are interested in making your Senior Portrait the most important portrait of your life. We want these portraits to reflect YOU!! You are encouraged to bring personal items that reflect the real you. For example: hobbies, musical instruments, uniforms, sports equipment, trucks, etc. Any students that would like to take photos with their car would need to pay an additional fee to allow for the photographer to leave the studio.

You can have your friends in your photos too!! Just have them come along with you and we will include them in some of your casual photo poses. If additional group photos are wanted, there will be an additional fee. Be sure to let us know if you are bringing a friend when you make your appointment.

Glasses often change magnification and can cause reflections and distortions that sometimes cannot be corrected in retouching. This can be a major problem, especially in outdoor photography. If you do not have contacts to wear, please discuss that you will be wearing glasses when you make your appointment.

Blemishes may show on previews, but our retouching will minimize them on your finished portraits. Females should keep their make-up natural-looking for normal daytime activities. Keep in mind that make-up that you might wear for night-time may look too heavy and un-natural. Guys should shave within an hour or two of your appointment, but please be careful to not sustain cuts or nicks. A five-o’clock shadow cannot be removed and all hairs/whiskers will be seen on camera.

Don’t forget to wear your class ring! This is a very special item that always goes well with any outfit.

Show who you are with a Senior Designer/Composite

We are always coming up with new ways to showcase all the amazing photos taken during a portrait session and one of our newest ways is through our Senior Designers/Composites.

Designers/composites are a great way to show-off all of the amazing things that make you unique and one-of-a-kind. Composites are typically a compilation of four-to-five photos that are mounted onto a hard composite material and then placed onto a larger background to give it a 3D effect.

Designers are a compilation of photos that are grouped by our graphic designers into one image with overlays and creative elements. When you come in for your appointment, we encourage all seniors to view our variety of Designer samples that we have on display.

Designers do have a design fee associated with them that is paid up front. Once this is done, the photographer works with you to take the appropriate photos in the studio to them create the groupings.

If the Designer fee is paid up front, the 8×10 Designer can be part of the final senior package. A two-pose Designer is $60, a three-pose Designer is $70 and a four-pose Designer is $80.

To view samples of Designers/Composites, click here.

If you chose to not purchase a Designer/Composite at the time of your sitting, and then would like one when you come in to place your order, a design fee will be assessed, along with the cost of an 8×10 portrait, which cannot be part of the package.

We always encourage seniors to come prepared to get the most bang-for-your-buck so please browse our galleries to get inspired.
